The long rectangular table is a huge symbol in my dad's college experience. This rectangular table was located in a conference room that wasn't even supposed to be used. The students had to jimmy the lock a little bit to get in. These students were serious with their academics however, and used this room and table to study for hours every night. This practice was essential for at least two of the men who used it (my dad and Calvin).
In college everyone has their own spot where they study. Everyone needs a place where they are bale to focus and get their work done. Some have one, while others have many places. This rectangular table was my dad's spot. Here he did all his work whether it was taking notes or drawing nice diagrams for visual studying. This table was where my father learned how to study.
At Emory I have a special spot like the rectangular table in the conference room that my dad had. Here I study on the 7th floor stacks in the library. When I am there, I feel completely focused and into my work.
